The school is eager to appoint an experienced Primary Teacher, or a teacher who has been out of the profession, who is interested in transferring to the Welsh-medium secondary sector as part of the Welsh Government's transition scheme. The purpose of the scheme is to increase the number of Welsh-medium teachers within the secondary sector. As part of the scheme you will join the teaching team at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy for a year, receiving support as you teach within the secondary sector. We invite applications from enthusiastic and forward-thinking primary teachers who are interested in broadening their experience within a secondary school. In addition, applications are welcomed from primary and secondary teachers who wish to return to teaching in Wales or teachers who wish to return to the profession.

Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy is a successful Welsh-medium comprehensive school located in the beautiful town of Llanrwst. It serves the wide Dyffryn Conwy catchment area, offering high-quality education to pupils between 11 and 18 years old. The school is well known for its strong community ethos and for promoting the use of the Welsh language among its young people, while also providing a broad curriculum that prepares learners for the future. With a strong emphasis on wellbeing and extracurricular opportunities, Dyffryn Conwy strives to nurture ambition and confidence in every individual.

This scheme offers a year of employment at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy to observe and teach within a specialist subject or subjects. In collaboration with Bangor University, you will receive support to successfully transition to teaching in the secondary sector. There will be a particular focus on the following aspects:
  • Lesson planning
    • Assessment, marking and feedback
    • Classroom management
    • Developing resilience
    • Language skills (depending on the needs of the individual)
You will have a Professional Supporter within the school who will hold regular professional dialogue with you to support you. Your timetable will offer extended periods for planning, research and observation as well as a teaching timetable.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who have a clear vision for developing pupils into independent, confident and successful learners. This opportunity is open to full-time or part-time applicants.

This scheme is supported by the Welsh Government and is available to applicants across Wales.
